Go-to guy: Johnson, last season's team MVP and best defensive player, has shown steady improvement in each of his three seasons at Miami, and he seems poised for a breakout senior season if he can overcome a preseason groin injury. He has the knack for hitting shots in the clutch, which he'll no doubt get plenty of opportunities to display in the Mid-American Conference.

Newcomer to watch: St. Clair could be the second Roger Bacon product, along with Hausfeld, in two years to make a significant impact on the RedHawks.

X factor: Mason sometimes likes to play at a pace faster than allowed by the Miami offense. He can be electrifying, but he has to pick his spots.
