You outdid yourselves. You entered a record 6,002 turkeys in Tempo's 10th annual Dress a Turkey contest.

THE WINNERS

As in years past, your turkeys are a pop culture bellwether. There were Teletubbies, Rugrats and South Park turkeys; Godzilla and Wedding Singer turkeys, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls turkeys. There was an alarming rise in turkeys sporting designer wear, most notably Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica and Abercrombie & Fitch.

Monica and Bill figured in more than a few entries (most of them quite discreet, all things considered).

The Reds and Bengals are kaput. They've been replaced by the University of Kentucky and Chicago Bulls basketball teams, NASCAR drivers, soccer-playing birds and, of course, baseball heavy hitters Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire.

We received our first flock of far-flung turkeys, courtesy of Shyla Clausen's class at Whitewater Elementary School in Whitewater, Mont. They spotted the entry form on our Web site, downloaded it and mailed in a batch of colorful birds - including a winner by Jaci Depuydt, 9.

Schools continue to produce as many as half the entries, with the art classes of Delhi Junior High School and Franklin High School again creating standouts. This year, they had fierce competition from students at Sardinia's Eastern Brown High School.

There also were fantastic turkeys from St. Teresa of Avila in West Price Hill and St. Jude in Bridgetown, adorned with everything from feathers to glitter to pompoms.

Feast your eyes on all the glorious winners. And please accept our thanks for making Thanksgiving so much fun.
