WLW (700 AM) will remain the primary voice of Xavier University basketball for four more years, a source said.

Jacor, WLW's parent company, and Xavier have agreed to extend their contract.

Roughly 20 of XU's 26 games next season will be on WLW. The remaining six or so that conflict with University of Cincinnati games will be shifted to WKRC (550 AM).

Official word of the extension should come next week. At the same time, Joe Sunderman will be named play-by-play announcer. Sunderman, the former Xavier player, moved from color commentary to play by play last year after longtime XU announcer Andy MacWilliams was taken off the broadcasts because of voice problems.

WLW and XU will select a new analyst.

The leading candidate is XU's all-time leading scorer, Byron Larkin.

Five other former Xavier players are also in the running: Ralph Lee, Steve Wolf, Jamal Walker, Gary Massa and Walt McBride.

McBride filled in last season after Sunderman switched to play by play.
