Troy Bell, the 6-foot point guard from Minneapolis who was scheduled to make his official visit to Xavier this weekend, canceled his trip and made a verbal commitment to attend Boston College on Monday.

Gary Rufsvold, Bell's coach at Academy of Holy Angels, said Wednesday night that Bell visited BC the weekend of Sept. 12. He had narrowed his choices to Tennessee, Boston College and Xavier.

"It surprised me he did that," Rufsvold said. "I think he got nervous. He saw some kids (commiting)."

Xavier canceled its visit with DeMario Hooper, who also was scheduled to visit this weekend, because shooting guard David Young -- who plays the same position as Hooper -- verbally committed Monday night.
