Xavier senior point guard Gary Lumpkin's 90-game starting streak appears safe.
While coach Skip Prosser experimented with new lineups ‹ on Monday, Maurice McAfee, Lenny Brown, James Posey, Kevin Frey and Obi Harris played together ‹ he said Tuesday that he doubted he would change anything from his usual lineup tonight.
"You try to make the best judgment you can at the time,'' Prosser said. "The ultimate goal is what's best for the team."
Lumpkin, who has started since the sixth game of his freshman season, is coming off his worst game as a Musketeer. He made 11 turnovers and was 1-of-7 from the field Saturday in a 71-57 loss to Purdue. Lumpkin is shooting 35.2 percent from the field and 19 percent from three-point range, both career lows.
Prosser has met with Lumpkin since the Purdue game and stressed that his four-year starter can't get "wrapped up in his own game."
"As a point guard, you have to be cognizant of the whole team, and when your own game is not going well, it's hard to worry about the other four guys," Prosser said. "The good thing is he has had success, so he can draw on what he did do when he was successful."
