Did win over Owls wow recruit?

BY MICHAEL PERRY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Xavier couldn't have put on a better show Sunday for its visiting recruit.

David West, a 6-foot-8 power forward from Hargrave Military Academy, made his official visit over the weekend and attended the Musketeers' 62-60 victory over Temple at a sold-out Cincinnati Gardens.

He got to meet Dick Vitale. He saw a great game.

“I had a good time,” West said before leaving town. “I enjoyed myself.”

West visited Marshall and East Carolina in the fall but will not be attending either of those schools. He said he has cut his list to Xavier, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Old Dominion and has no other visits scheduled.

In addition to a good education, West said he is looking for a school that is “not the only thing in town.”

“I don't want to go somewhere and be Jesus Christ to the basketball team,” he added. “I don't want to have to go somewhere and save them from despair. On the other hand, I want to go somewhere where I can play a major role in whatever they've been having, keeping it up.”
