Price shakes pain, gets double-double

BY MICHAEL PERRY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

BUFFALO, N.Y. Lloyd Price hadn't practiced since Saturday. His dislocated left ring finger was stitched up.

        He played anyway.

The sophomore forward entered Wednesday night's game with 12:58 left in the first half. He returned to the bench with 9:05 on the clock holding his finger after a two-handed rebound dunk.

“I tried to pull away with my left arm, but I couldn't,” Price said.

He didn't stay down long. He came back less than two minutes later and went on to record a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go with three blocks in XU's 87-78 victory at Canisius.

Trainer David Fluker put a plastic splint on Price's finger and he didn't feel the pain. Still, coach Skip Prosser was planning on playing without Price. Kevin Frey had worked out at small forward the previous two days.

They're wins
XU's victory over Canisius was its sixth against a team with an RPI of worse than 200 (as of Wednesday). The Golden Griffins were No.220. The Musketeers also defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore (292), St.Mary's (265), Central Michigan (239), East Tennessee State (214) and Rhode Island (201). The six teams are a combined 37-91.

Lucky 13
Senior Darnell Williams is the No.13 scorer in Xavier history with 1,401 career points. Now he aims for former teammates James Posey, No.12, with 1,455 points, and No.11 Gary Lumpkin, 1,507.

Notable number
David West started his 22nd straight game Wednesday night; no freshman has started more to start his career since Gary Massa started all 27 games of the 1977-78 season.
