Xavier's recruiting shaping up
Colorado recruit orally commits
By Neil Schmidt
The Cincinnati Enquirer
How powerful a pull has the Cintas Center been? By the first weekend of fall, Xavier has nearly finished its basketball recruiting.
The men's team filled its last vacancy when 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard Jaison Williams of Aurora, Colo., orally committed this weekend.
That's a hell of a year; it's phenomenal, HoopScoop publisher Clark Francis said. That's going to get them in the top 20 (recruiting classes) for now.
Williams, who averaged 17 points, 4.5 steals and four assists last year for Aurora Hinkley, picked Xavier over Tulsa and Colorado State without even visiting the other two. He raved about the facilities.
There are the best I have ever seen, he said. The floor, the locker room, everything.
This is great for Jaison, Hinkley coach Dan Jarvis said. Xavier runs and presses a lot, and that's what we do. He fits their philosophy real well.
Williams can play either guard spot but will likely be groomed for the point at XU. With Maurice McAfee graduating after this season, freshman Lionel Chalmers is the only other point guard.
Williams isn't a top-100 (rated) guy, but he's 110 to 150, Francis said. It's a steal.
With three scholarships to fill, XU got commitments from Williams, 6-5 swingman Keith Jackson of Purcell Marian, and 6-9 forward Will Caudle of Indianapolis Warren Central. It will likely keep recruiting in case any current Musketeers elect not to return after this season.
