Xavier schedule includes Wisconsin

Musketeers open Cintas Center Nov. 18

By Neil Schmidt
The Cincinnati Enquirer

The Xavier men's basketball schedule, released Thursday, includes seven games against 2000 NCAA Tournament teams — including Final Four qualifier Wisconsin — and five against NIT teams.

The Musketeers, returning five of their top six scorers from a 21-12 team, will see a staggered schedule in Atlantic 10 Conference play and face a tough stretch of December road games. But the principal topic of conversation is the move to their new on-campus arena, the Cintas Center.

“This first-class facility gives you a new, brighter outlook about the future of the program and the entire university,” coach Skip Prosser said. “We've been able to compete at the highest level ... on the court, but now we can compete in terms of facilities.”

XU opens the regular season with the Nov. 18 Cintas Center debut against Miami University. XU doesn't play a road game in November, but it visits Wisconsin on Dec. 2, Princeton on Dec. 9, Cincinnati in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout Dec.14 (on ESPN), and Toledo on Dec.23. The Musketeers play Kent Dec.30 in the Rock-N-Roll Shootout at Gund Arena in Cleveland.

Because the A-10 has 11 teams this season, it will not have divisional play. XU plays six A-10 teams home-and-home: Dayton, Massachusetts, St. Joseph's, George Washington, LaSalle and Rhode Island. It will play Temple and St.Bonaventure at home, and Duquesne and Fordham on the road.

XU will make 22 regular-season TV appearances.
