Xavier players, fans woo recruit

By Neil Schmidt
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Xavier rolled out the blue carpet for Kettering Alter senior Adam Waleskowski over the weekend.

At Midnight Madness, fans serenaded Waleskowski, who was making his official visit, with a chant of “We want Adam!” Then Saturday afternoon at practice, when the team gathered for the first time, they summoned Waleskowski and had him join the huddle.

“I had a really good time,” Waleskowski said of his visit. “I hadn't gotten to know the players before.”

The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward attended a class Friday with senior Maurice McAfee, toured Paul Brown Stadium, dined with the team Friday night at Prosser's house, and hung out with players before and after Saturday's practice. It was his second consecutive year attending XU's Midnight Madness.

XU and Dayton are the front-runners for Waleskowski's services, though he took an unofficial visit to Purdue last month and will visit Florida State Nov. 3-4. He will take his official visit to Dayton next weekend.

XU and Dayton both have filled their available scholarships for next year, but Waleskowski's father, Pete, said he will pay his son's way for a year if no scholarships open up at the school Adam picks.

Adam's brother, Keith, is a redshirt freshman at Dayton. Two factors are potentially in XU's favor: Dayton has gotten commitments from four frontline players, and Adam picking Dayton might mean competing for playing time with Keith, who is also a 6-8 forward.

Waleskowski said he would make his decision after returning from his Florida State trip.

The women's team had two recruits in: Kim Neidermeyer, a 6-foot guard from Willoughby (Ohio) North, and Allisha Morris, a 6-4 center from Hampton (Va.) High. Neidermeyer already has committed to XU.
