Xavier Notebook

Musketeers aim to square score

By Mark Curnutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Today's meeting between the Xavier women's basketball team and Clemson will be the second. They met in 1993, when XU made its first NCAA Tournament appearance.

That year, the fifth-seeded Tigers defeated 12th seed Xavier 70-64 in a first-round game at Clemson.

This season, the two teams have one common opponent, Florida State. Xavier defeated the Seminoles 75-72 Feb.1 at Cintas Center, and the Tigers swept their Atlantic Coast Conference rivals in two meetings.

RECENT HISTORY: Friday night's first-round 80-52 victory over Louisville was the Musketeers' 19th in a row and 33rd consecutive when they score 80 or more points.

Clemson is 6-5 in its past 11 games, including a four-game losing streak during regular season ACC play.

RECORD BREAKERS: With its 29th victory Friday, Xavier established a record for most victories in a season for an XU team, men or women.

SENIOR CITIZENS: XU's five-member senior class is 96-28 (.774) in four seasons. The five are Erin Hall, Nicole Levandusky, Jennifer Parr, Jennifer Phillips and Taru Tuukkanen.

THREES: XU has hit at least one 3-pointer in 104 consecutive games. It is fourth in the nation in 3-point shooting percentage at .417 and ninth with an average of 7.3 3s a game.

The 14 3s Friday tied the program record, set first during the 2000-2001 regular season. Xavier has hit four or more 3s in 58 of its past 62 games over the past two seasons.

The Musketeers have made 10 or more 3s in seven games this season and have 226 total.

Levandusky leads the team with 87, just seven off the program record she set as a sophomore two seasons ago.
