Departures open two scholarships
Xavier has gone from no scholarships available to two. We're looking for forwards, coach Skip Prosser said Monday.
In November, XU had already filled its available scholarships and was trying to woo Adam Waleskowski of Kettering Alter to campus as a walk-on. He declined. But with the departures of Price and Khalil Nixon, the Musketeers are back in the recruiting business.
One scholarship has been offered to 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward Mike Hayes, a Hartford, Conn., native who plays at Cowley County (Kan.) Community College. Hayes averaged 13.7 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists this season, shooting 59.8 percent.
Hayes made his official visit to XU March 23-24. He will pick between XU and New Mexico, which he will visit Thursday.
He was very impressed with Xavier, Cowley assistant coach Brian Jackson said. Jackson said Hayes' strengths are rebounding and running the floor.
