Graduating McIntosh leaves Xavier

Matta may leave three scholarships open

By Neil Schmidt
The Cincinnati Enquirer

The Xavier men's basketball roster is down to 10 scholarship players with the word Brandon McIntosh will not return.

McIntosh told the Enquirer he is graduating at the end of summer classes. Though eligible for one more season if he enrolled as a graduate student, he will not take that option.

McIntosh, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward, appeared in 14 games this season, averaging 2.5 minutes and 0.6 points.

Last fall, XU had filled all its available scholarships for next season. But Khalil Nixon, Lloyd Price and McIntosh have left. It's so late in the recruiting season that XU may have to leave three scholarships unused this winter.

“If for some reason we're not able to get any other guys, I think we still have enough guys to pull together and have a successful team,” senior Alvin Brown said. Four walk-ons are expected to return.

McIntosh didn't qualify academically out of Roger Bacon, so he sat out his freshman year and played the past two years on scholarship. He averaged 2.2 points in 18 games in 1999-2000.

XU coach Thad Matta was unavailable for comment Thursday.
