XU scraps blue, gray jerseys
Xavier Notebook
By Neil Schmidt
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Xavier Musketeers will make their second uniform change in as many seasons, this one necessitated by their sponsor switch from Reebok to Nike.
The principal difference is that XU will no longer employ a bonus jersey. It will wear white at home, black on the road.
XU had worn blue on the road and alternated a gray jersey with its normal home whites before last season, when its special-occasion jersey became a black edition for road games. It wore the new blue jerseys only for its first road game, a loss at Wisconsin, before switching to black for all remaining road contests.
NATIONAL PRIDE: Swingman Romain Sato kept sharp this summer by playing in the African Games, a World Cup qualifying event held Aug.4-14 in France and Morocco. He played for the Central African Republic national team, and says his team won three of its six games in the event.
FINN SIDELINED: XU's top recruit, Newburgh (Ind.) Castle point guard Dedrick Finn, has been ruled academically ineligible and is sidelined from playing high school football. But he could be reinstated by the next grading period and return in time for the regional round of the playoffs.
Finn, who committed to XU in late August, was the leading receiver and a top defensive back through seven games for the Knights who were ranked No.3 in 5A, Indiana's largest classification. But Castle lost the first game Finn missed, which father Derrick Finn said taught his son a lesson.
This really hit Dedrick hard, he said. He's got the article (about his being ineligible) from the Evansville paper posted on his wall to motivate him.
