Xavier, bidding to become the first team since Temple to successfully defend an Atlantic 10 Conference championship in volleyball, lost 3-1 (30-25, 30-25, 29-31, 30-25) to the regular-season champion Owls (24-6) in the semifinals Friday night at Cintas Center.
It was a rematch of last year's championship, won by Xavier.
XU finished this season 16-14.
In Friday's other semifinal, third-seeded George Washington (19-12) defeated second-seeded Dayton 3-1 (29-3, 30-19, 30-24, 30-19). UD finished 22-7.
Temple and George Washington will meet in the A-10 championship match at 7p.m. today at Cintas Center.
Temple is trying for its four A-10 championship and George Washington is seeking its fifth.
The winner will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
