KINGSTON, R.I. - Amy Waugh tied an Atlantic 10 record with seven 3-pointers and scored 28 points as Xavier advanced to the A-10 Tournament semifinals for the sixth year in a row with a quarterfinal win.
With the win, Xavier moves to 20-8, giving XU the seventh 20-win season in the program's 31-year history.
. The record of seven 3s had been set three previous times, including last year by Waugh in a quarterfinal win over George Washington.
With a pull-up 3 on a fast break from the top of the key with 12:23 left in the game, Waugh hit her 101st 3-pointer of the season, eclipsing the single-season mark Nicole Levandusky set in 2000-01.
Tara Boothe, the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, added 15 points for Xavier.
Alexis Henderson led Xavier with nine rebounds in the game.
Xavier fell behind 8-5 in the first 3:15 of the game, but then used an 8-0 run to open up a 13-8 lead six minutes into the contest.
La Salle got within four, at 16-12, before Xavier scored 13 points as the Explorers went 6:57 without putting a point on the board.
Xavier stretched the lead to as many as 20, going up 38-18, late in the period before taking a 38-20 lead into halftime, thanks in large part to 56 percent shooting in the opening period.
The Musketeers advance to play Rhode Island in today's second semifinal. The Rams downed Saint Joseph's, the number one seeded team in the East, 62-49 Friday. That game will start at about 6 p.m. and will air on Fox Sports Net Ohio.
Earlier this year, Xavier beat Rhode Island 70-45.
