Xavier announces athletic inductees

Enquirer wire services

Former Xavier basketball player Jamal Walker will be inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame at the Nov. 14 awards banquet at the Cintas Center. Walker, a 1991 graduate who led Xavier to the 1990 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, will be joined by inductees Amanda Gruber-Creech ('98) and David von Haefen ('94).

Walker, now the Woodward High School athletic director, is second on Xavier's all-time assist chart with 639 career assists.

Gruber-Creech was an All-American soccer forward whose father, Jim Gruber, a former Xavier baseball player, is a member of the school's hall of fame. The St. Ursula Academy graduate set Xavier records for most goals in a season (24) and a career (67).

Von Haefen led the Xavier golf team to four straight Midwestern Collegiate Conference championships after graduating from Lakota High School.

He was named to the All-Conference team three times in his career and won conference medallist honors in 1992.
