Xavier center Anthony Myles had a surprise waiting for him in the mail when Xavier returned to Cintas Center Sunday night. Myles received an invitation to play in the Portsmouth Invitational, a camp for NBA draft prospects April 7-10.
Myles averaged 10.6 points and 6.9 rebounds this season but picked up his play in the NCAA Tournament. In four games, he averaged 12 points and 10.5 rebounds. He was playing one of the best games of his career Sunday against Duke when he fouled out after recording 16 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes. XU lost 66-63.
Myles arrived at Xavier before last season from Olney College. Playing alongside David West last season, he led the Atlantic 10 in offensive rebounding.
"We thought he'd be a guy who would have a great career at Xavier," XU coach Thad Matta said. "He's had a tremendous impact."
Senior Romain Sato had already received a Portsmouth invite but will not attend. Players who are considered near locks to be drafted usually wait to play until the Chicago pre-draft camp in June, if at all.
Lionel Chalmers, who led Xavier with 16.6 points per game this season could still receive an invite to Portsmouth after playing impressively in the NCAA Tournament.
